Statler College provides STEM research and education to K-12 students. Many grants and research projects are now taking historical, technical research and transforming it into relatable information and resources for K-12 students. The Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources has been involved in creating dedicated K-12 outreach for more than a decade, focusing on summer camps and the Statler College STEMZONE. These programs provide structure for our research faculty to implement K-12 objectives into their proposals, as well as a team to help support the initiatives. Our outreach staff works with faculty to ensure activities related to their grants and research are not only educational, but also fun and exciting which helps achieve the goals of bringing more students into the STEM pipeline. The Statler College K-12 initiatives have focused heavily on under-represented minorities in STEM fields with the focus of encouraging more diverse talent to join these fields.
