Due to the rising cost of new construction and the budgetary constraints faced by federal and state agencies, there has been increasing emphasis on pre-emptive remediation of existing civil infrastructure to prolong its service life. Nondestructive Testing and Evaluation plays a key role in infrastructure diagnostics including monitoring the health of the nation’s infrastructure, identifying areas that need to be repaired, and prioritizing the repair work within budgetary constraints. Modern nondestructive diagnostic techniques can provide detailed information on the structure’s condition before and after repair, enable quality control during the repair work, and help in periodic monitoring of infrastructure so that subsurface defects can be detected in their early stages of formation.
